Winnie Hu reports in today’s NYT that DOE Chancellor Joel Klein reversed his decision and will allow parent-paid teaching aides in public schools this fall. Not completely a done-deal, details with unions, etc. still need to be hammered out.
That’s great news for Riverdale’s public schools. For more:

The not-so-sweet smell coming from Van Cortlandt Park’s replanting of the Parade Grounds has made this week’s NY Magazine Neighborhood Watch. A quick read of the roundup and a little olfactory assault seems like nothing.

NY Daily News reports today on the ferry service proposals for the Bronx. Included in the plan is a ferry from Riverdale to midtown and the World Financial Center (reported in great detail last year in the Riverdale Press).
Other possible sites: Ferry Point, Soundview Park, Yankee Stadium (no surprise), Fordham Landing, Orchard Beach, Hunts Point [...]

We started our day at Van Cortlandt park today. Tennis before the summertime heat arrived. I love going there in the early morning and seeing all these different athletes going about their thing at the same time. The track, handball, bikers. The place was bustling and very inspiring.
